This is our own home office in our 1747 farmhouse. We kept the original wide plank floors and exposed the beams that had been hidden behind plaster, but everything else is new and custom. We established the need for a double desk and lots of storage. The desktop and legs are reclaimed chestnut, finished with tung oil. We designed and built the off-white shaker cabinets and sourced hammered metal drawer pulls to create a modern farmhouse vibe. The brick wall is meant to look original but is not. We purchased local reclaimed brick and applied a traditional tile pattern; what makes it feel fresh is the white, not grey, mortar. Canned lights were also installed, drilling through layers of plaster and lath.
